R U OK?
R U OK day is a national Day to remind us to ask friends, families and workmates “are you ok?”
Today all LCR Depots took time out and gathered together for morning tea and tool boxed the topic to raise awareness and remind everyone of it’s importance.
A few simple steps, could change a life!
We encourage everyone to recognise and invest that extra bit of time into those around them, whether it’s your family, friends, a workmate or complete stranger. If you’ve got a niggling feeling that someone you know or care about isn’t behaving as they normally would, they seem out of sorts, more agitated or withdrawn or just not themselves… trust your gut instinct and act on it!
Prepare Yourself to Ask the Question
- Am I ready?
- Am I prepared?
- Picked my moment?
How to Ask
- Ask R U OK?
- Listen without judgement
- Encourage action
- Check in
By starting a conversation, you could help that family member, friend or workmate open up. If they say they are not OK, you can follow the conversation steps (attached below) to show them they’re supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load. If they are OK, that person will know you’re someone who cares enough to ask.
Staying connected and having meaningful conversations is something we can all do. You don’t need to be an expert – just a good friend and a great listener.
